Notes

The petition of John Girling of Nacton sets forth that he was a land soldier for King Charles the First of blessed memory in the time of the rebellion and civil wars here in England, and was likewise a soldier in a man-of-war in the time and service of King Charles the Second of like blessed memory, and in both services received divers wounds, and has now become very aged and impotent, unable to get his living. In all humble manner he has besought the favour of this court to admit him to a pension for his future support and maintenance. The substance of his petition being confirmed by the relation of Sir Robert Brooke, baronet, this court, taking his condition into their consideration, has thought fit, as a mark of reward for his loyalty and good service, to allow him a pension of £6 13 s. 4 d. a year, to be paid him quarterly by the treasurer for maimed soldiers of this division.
