He had 'received severall dangerous wounds in his body' in Parliament's service and was 'in greate distresse for want of a place of habitation'. He was given permission to build a cottage on the waste ground in Creech Heathfield for himself and his family. If he predeceased his wife Grace, she was to have the right to remain there for her lifetime.
