‘Vpon the peticion of John Cornelius of Bishopesteington a poore and decayed souldier of his late Majestie Kinge Charles the first and the Certificate of diverse of the most sufficient persons of the said parish as of the Informacion of severall Justices of the peace neere there adioyninge that the said John Cornelius received severall wounds in his said Majesties service and by reason thereof was disabled to gett his livelyhood but was releived by his father Richard Cornelius who is since decayed in his estate & his said sonne very much impared in his sences by reason of his said wounds It is therefore thought fitt and soe ordered by this Courte that the Treasurer for ye maymed souldiers of this County doe pay vnto him forty shillings towards his present releiffe and any two Justices of the peace of that division are desired to cause some skilfull Chyrurgion to inspect his wounds and to Certify the trueth of the premisses at the next Sessions and in the meanetime the said parish is to releive his further necessities and this Courte will vpon returne of such Certificate as aforesaid take order for his further releiffe accordinge to his merritts.’
