At an earlier sessions held at Swaffham on 17 July 1655, John Browne of Seechy, a poor solider, was granted 20s., plus 9d. per week towards his maintenance. Since then he had ‘become soe poore & lame that he humbly prayeth this Court to grant him a yearely pension which this Court thought fitt & did order & allow the said Browne a yearly pension of forty shillings to be paid him by the treasurers of the maimed souldiers, & further order that the Churchwardens & Overseers of the towne of Seechy & Runcton shall pay him twenty shillings for pr[e]sent & nine pence weekely according to the order abovementioned.’
