fol. 14: It was ordered by the court that John Baxter, who took up arms in the county and was wounded in Parliament’s service, be paid a gratuity of 20 s. It was further ordered that the Overseers of the Poor for Chalk, where Baxter was now settled, provide work for him so that he could earn 2 s. a week and in default thereof, they were to pay him the sum themselves.
