Fol. 53: The court heard the matter concerning the keeping and providing for John Barston, a poor child, the son of Redman Barston, late of the parish of All Saints, butcher, who had been impressed for the Commonwealth’s service in Ireland the previous July, leaving John unprovided for. The Churchwardens and Overseers of the parish had refused to provide for John since Redman’s departure as they should have done and ignored a warrant from the Mayor, Thomas Tresser Esquire to do so. Consequently, the Mayor had disbursed 22 s. 6 d. for the relief of John. It was ordered that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor should reimburse the Mayor the said 22 s. 6 d. and provide for John’s maintenance for the future.
