Notes

Allen served his Majesty in the regiment of Colonel Charles Fairfax, in the company of Captain John Fairfax, under the command of the Duke of Albemarle, was thus ‘instrumental to the happy restoration of his Majesty that now is’. Since the disbanding of the army he had served under the command of the Lord Belasyse. He was now brought to necessity by reason of his great charge of children, two of whom being lame and infirm. [Charles Fairfax’s regiment of horse moved south with Monck on his march from Scotland in 1660.] The payment was to begin at the next Easter sessions.
