Notes

Morrell's husband Anthony was a soldier in the garrison at Arundel who died around November 1653, leaving her in the castle there. She was described as 'poore and not able to provide for herself'. The castle was not accounted to be in the parish of Arundel or any other parish, so it was ordered she be sent to the [illegible] near Lewes, where she and her husband were last inhabitants and 'there to be settled and provided for by the churchwardens and overseers of the poore'.
