Notes

Upon the humble petition of Jeremy Gilbert, aged one hundred years, showing that having faithfully served his [late] Majesty in the late wars, had a pension of fifty shilling per annum granted him, which had been duly paid him until of late; intrusting his pension order in the hand of Mr Thomas Allum the High Constable, to receive his pension for him. Which order about harvest last (when the said Mr Allum’s house was robbed) was (amongst other writings of the said Mr Allum) lost and miscarried, by reason whereof he [Gilbert] was debarred of his pension. He therefore desired a new order to be granted him for receiving his said pension, and the payment thereof to begin at Michaelmas Sessions last. NB this order appears to be a rough draft of an identical order held in QSR 1/109 (Easter Quarter Sessions 1683).
