The pension was granted after Bonfeild's petition 'unto the right honourable Sir John Vaughan, knight, Lord Chief Justice of his majesties Court of Common Pleas & one of his majesties Justices of Assize for this county showing that he faithfully served his late majestie in the late warres a cornett under the command of Sir James Hamilton wherein he received severall wounds in his body & is now in a low condicion & ever since continued loyall, the which is attested under the hands of divers person of good quality of this county, and thereupon his Lordship having byn pleased to recommend the same unto the Deputy Lieutenants & Justices of the Peace of this county to afford the peticioner some reliefe for such his faithfull service'.
