"Whereas it appeareth to this court by certificate under the hand of Captain Hercules Pyne that George Chapple of Gittesham was a souldier in the service of the State who received a wound in his hand by a shott, by meanes whereof he hath lost the use and benefitt of his hand, It is therefore ordered that the Treasurer … doe forthwith pay … 20 s. for his present maintenance, And if he carry himselfe civilly & honestly then to be further considered of."
