Notes

Fol. 39: Francis Syke, ‘pr[e]tending himselfe to bee a Souldier prest from Hamm[er]smith in this County to Cales Voyage’ had previously had an order from the court to have a pension of 12 d. weekly from the parish of Hammersmith. However, he could not produce a certificate of his service and record of his wounding. Furthermore, he had spent eleven of the last twelve years residing in Newington in Surrey and the remaining year in Westminster. Therefore, on the motion of Mr Lane, an inhabitant of Hammersmith, and in consultation with the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor for the parish, it was ordered that Syke be discharged from his pension and seek relief in the place where he was last lawfully settled.
