Pratt served as a soldier in the regiment of Colonel Griffin during the Civil Wars and received 'many wounds and scars in his body, the marks whereof will be visible to his dying day, And did oftentimes escape in much danger of his life in the said wars'. Pratt was now very old and infirm, and 'disabled to get his living as formerly'.
