The pension was made up of pensions previously granted to Stephen Bowne of Sherborne and Elyas Bishopp of Sherborne, both deceased (40 s. from Bowne and 20 s. from Bishopp). It was granted to Whitehead 'upon a sufficient certificate unto this court under the hands of divers persons of good credit and quality that Esayah Whitehead of Sherborne aforesaid did behave himselfe loyall & faithfull to his late majeste King Charles the first of ever blessed memory & in the said service received diverse wounds in his body, & never diserted that service'.
