fols 62-62v: Edward Chapman of Orpington, labourer, petitioned the court that he was in the service of Charles I in the Civil Wars and was therein shot and maimed. He had been lamed and lived in poverty ever since and, being 60 years old, was no longer able to maintain his wife and children. It was ordered that Chapman be paid a gratuity of 20 s. at this Sessions and a further gratuity of 20 s. at the Easter Sessions.
