‘Whereas Edward Appleby a pore old soldier pr[e]ferred a peticon to his Court about shewing that he had a pension payd him for many yeares last and is now almost blinde so pore and aged & havinge a little Cottage of his owne which is so ruinated and in decay that it is likely to be forfeited to the lord of the mannor and prayed this Court to allowe him some moneys to repair the said Cottage & for his better meanes of lively hood as by the said peticon more at large appeareth. All which this Court referred to the Justices of the lymitt desiringe them to call the churchwardens & ov[er]seers of Potterheigham aforesaid before them & then hearing all p[ar]tys to order as they shall thinke fit for the releife of the said Appleby.’
