"Whereas it appeareth unto this court that William Clarke late of Sydmouth was a souldier in the service of the Parlyment And being under the command of Collonell Michaell Serle in his Regiment of horse in a skirmish with the late Kings party was by the enemy slayne at Plymouth and hath left his wife and five small children very poore and not able to releive themselves but are driven into great necessity, It is therefore ordered that the Treasurer of the hospitall of this county shall forthwith pay unto Beaton wife of the said William Clarke the sume of five pounds for her mainetenance who doth ingage not to crave any more releife for the future."
