According to her petition, her husband, William Massy was a soldier under Major Broniall where he ‘gott such a could in his lyms that hee was not able to goe to his bed nor rise up without helpe of others whereby hee was vtterly impoverished in his estate, and beeing since somewhat recouered hee is gone into Scotland and is nowe there’, leaving her destitute with her six children. Invoking the statute of 43 Elizabeth that the father or grandfather should maintain her, it is ordered that Thomas Wickstead, the grandfather provide for their relief.
