‘Upon the peticion of Anne Bettesworth, widow, late wife of William Bettesworth, corporall of the horse of Chichester garison, together with a certificate of Sir John Chapman, knight, William Cawley and John Oglander, esquires, and others on her behalf, certifying that the sayd William Bettesworth was slayne at Taunton in the Parliament’s service, and that he had before lent £50 being the one halfe of his estate to reduce Ireland and that he had done extraordinary service in the late warrs, It is ordered that a pencion of ten pounds per annum shal be allowed to the sayd Anne during her life, to be payd by the Treasurer of charitable uses quarterly, the first payment to begin at this present sessions’.
