The payment was made upon the petition of the inhabitants of Little Steeping, which declared that William Gunby (late of that parish) was in his lifetime a soldier in the king’s army, never deserted the service, and expended much of his estate. His recent death has left his widow (who brought him a considerable estate) in a very poor condition.
