Fol. 44: Upon the consideration of ‘the sad & ?undone condic[i]on’ of an unnamed petitioner referred to the court by an order from the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell of 18 January 1655/6 for his relief, it was ordered that Mr Austin (JP and Treasurer for Maimed Soldiers for the previous year) pay the petitioner or his wife 20 s. for their present relief. It was further ordered that upon the petitioner with his wife and children taking themselves to the place of the habitation at Deptford in Kent, remaining there for one month and obtaining a certificate from the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there, Mr Austin was to pay them an additional £9.
