The warrant for William Castle of Canterbury (All Saints Parish), City and County of Canterbury, 20 January 1681

Trusty and Welbeloved Wee greet you well letting you Weet, That Wee minding the Reliefe of our poore subject William Castle of the parish of All Saints in our City of Canterbury, who has bin always loyall to Us, & our Royall Father of Blessed memory & in the Rising of Kent, at Maidstone rece[ive]d a deep wound in his head in Capt[ain] Brockman’s Company wherein hee served, and being sixty yeares old and very poore as appears to us by good Certi[ica]t[e], In considerac[i]on thereof, Have given & granted and by these pr[e]sents for us our heires & successors Doe give and grant unto the said William Castle the Roome and place of one of our Almesmen belonging to our Cathedrall & Metropoliticall Church of Christ Church Canterbury for & during his natural life, if any such place be there now voyd, or the next that shall become voyd after the placeing of such as have our former Grant for the like place there. Wherefore Wee will and Com[m]and you not only to admitt & place the said William Castle in the said Almesmans place belonging to our Cathedrall & Metropoliticall Church aforesaid; but also to pay & allow unto him from tyme to tyme after his admission all such Wages Fees Dutys and other allowances as shal be due and incident to the same in as large ample and beneficiall manner as any other our Almesmen there have receiue and enjoy, or of right ought to have receive & enjoy by the Foundac[i]on thereof Provided always that if the said William Castle have any Almesman’s place elsewhere Then this our present Grant unto him to be voyd, and of none effect. And these our Letters shal be your sufficient Warrant. Given under our Signet at our palace of Westm[inste]r the fiue and Twentieth day of January in the Two and Thirtyeth yeare of our Reigne.
