The order for John Cornelius of Bishopsteignton, Devon, 1672

Upon the peticon of John Cornelius of Bishopsteignton a poore & decayed souldier of his late ma[jes]ties King Charles the first and the Certificate of diverse of the most sufficient p[er]sons of the said parish and of the informac[i]ons of severall Justices of the peace near there adioyning that ye said John Cornelius Reseived severall wounds in his said Ma[jes]ties service & by reason thereof was disabled to gett his Livelyhood and was Releived by his father Richard Cornelius who is since decayed in his estate and his said sonne very much impaired in his senses by Reason of his said wounds it is therefore thought fit & soe ordered by this Courte that ye tresures of the maymed souldiers of this County doe pay unto him forty shillings towards his pr[e]sent reliefe and any two Justices of the peace of that division are desired to Cause some skilfull surgeon to inspect his wounds and to Certify the trueth of the pr[e]misses at the next Sessions, And in ye meane time the said parish is to Relieve his further necessityes and this Courte will upon returne of such Certificate as aforesaid take order for his further reliefe According to his merrits.
