Whereas it hath beene made appeare vnto vs that Edward Mercer of Hem[m]ington in ye County of North[amp]ton[shire] was slaine in ye warres at Woodcraft house in his Late Ma[jes]ties servis leauing Ailice Mercer his wife w[i]th seu[er]al Children in great want haueing nothing to maintaine her & her Children but her Labour and ye Charety of others & being now growne into years, now his Ma[jes]ties Justices of ye Peace for ye County of North[amp]ton[shire] by vertue of ye power giuen vs in one Act of Parliament intitled an Act for ye reliefe of poore & maimed oficers and souldiers who haue faithfully serued his Ma[jes]tie & his Royall Father in ye late warrs, wee doe Judge it meete that for her releife ye Treasurers for the maimed souldiers for the County of North[amp]ton[shire] shall alow her ye sum[m] of fiffty two shillings yearely & the same to be payed her halfe yearely the first payment to begin in ye nyne and twentieth of septem[be]r next ensuing ye date hereof in wittness whereof wee haue sett to o[u]r hands and seales this 22th of July 1667.

<In regard the justices of the peace have met and settled pentions for the hundreds of Polebrooke, Willowbrooke and Navisford, before this poore widdow had notis she liveinge in Polebrooke we desier the Right Hon[oura]ble the Earle of Westmorland and Maurice Tresham Esq[ui]r[e] and the other justices to whom had considerac[i]on of these hundreds are referred, that they would continue her the former pention she had, we beinge all very well satisfyed that she is not excluded by the late quallifications and that he husband was slayne in ye K[ing]s servis.>
