To his Maj[es]ties Right Hon[oura]ble & Right Wor[shi]p[fu]ll Justices of the peace at their Gen[er]all Quarter Sessions of the peace holden at Weakefield for the said Riding Michaelmas Anno Car[oli] [?secundi] xxxvjo.

These are to humbly certify that John Brown of the Constablry of Holmefirth aged about Seventy six yeares was Souldier vnder Capt Collonel Wheatley in his Late Maj[es]ties Service dureing the Late Warres, Since which warres ended, hee hath maintained himselfe (being but a poor Coalminer or getter of Coales in good Ranke from being chargeable to any, but being aged as aforesaid is now taken w[i]th the palsey which he doth believe is come vpon w[i]th cold and other hardship he endured dureing his service aforesaid whereby hee is much enfeebled & now almost quite disabled from any labour And therevpon humbly applyes himselfe to yo[u]r hon[ou]rs & wor[shi]ps desireing hee may have some competent allowance as this session shall judge {three illegible words} maintainance in his old age.
