The certificate for William Thomas of Wrexham, Denbighshire, c. 1662 to 1667

These are to certifie all those whome it may concerne that the bearer hereof William Thomas of the p[ar]ish of Wrexham in the County of Denbigh hath byn a souldyer for his late Ma[jes]ty in the Regiment of S[i]r Robert Howard kn[igh]t whereof I was a Livetenant Coll[onel] and continued a souldier in that Regiment for aboue the space of three yeares and in that tyme receaued diu[er]s hurts and wounds in seu[er]all fights at Newbery Henley & Cirencester as a shott in the knee, a Thrust into his body with a sword a Cutt vpon his head and diu[er]s other hurts and is now growne very poore and indigent, and hath a wife & seaven children whereof foure are very you[n]ge and haue noe other subsistance but the charity of their neighbour’s hee being not able to maintaine them by his labour, and hath continued faithfull to his M{ajesty} and his lat{e} {Majesty} {illegible}
