The certificate for William Symons of Payhembury, Devon, 12 July 1675

To S[i]r Thomas Carew K[nigh]t and other o[u]r Fellow Justices now assembled at ye Castle of Exon these
Whereas wee are credibly informed (not only by the Minister Churchwardens & ou[e]rse[e]rs of the parish of Peyhembury in the County afores[ai]d) but seu[e]rall other Inhabetants of the same p[ar]ish That William Symons of the same parish by reason of seu[e]rall wounds w[hi]ch hee rec[eive]d in his late Ma[jes]ties warr (of eu[e]r blessed memory) is in a weake and miserable condic[i]on and if not speedely releiued may perish for want And whereas at the regulatinge of ye penc[i]ons of the maymed souldiers The said Symons was abated thirty shillings p[er] ann[um] hee being then as wee were informed pritty well able to worke Wee therefore whose names are subscribed doe thinke fitt that hee should receiue his former pay of fower pounds and tenn shillings p[er] Ann[um] and doe desire that it may bee granted, and that hee may haue one quarters pay now, because of his condic[i]on, for as wee are inform’d hee cannot receiue it any long tyme
