To his ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace and to all Other Whome this doth or Maye Concerne:

Wee whose names are subscribed Inhabitants in and Neighbo[u]rs vnto the Towneshippe of Handley cum Millton doe hereby humbly Certefie that for seuerall yeares now Last past, Wee haue beene Acqu[a]inted w[i]th William Sharman of Saughton and haue and still doe knowe him to bee a true Loyall and faithfull subiect haueinge in the late vnhappie & trublesume wares serued his late ma[jes]tie of ever Blessed memorie & hath Beene a souldier vnder the Com[m]and of Sir Edmund Verney in Colo[ne]ll Gibsons Regement & engaged in Many engagements & Fights and not onely thereby Receued many dangerous Wounds & hurts But alsoe hath sustayned very many greete Losses & damagis Whereby he is reduced to a very poore needy & necessitous Condic[i]on beinge Rendred vncapable of Followinge any trade or Worke whereby to Mayntane himselfe wife Children of Famaley & hath never hitherto Receued any Bennefit of his Ma[jes]ties gracious Beneuelence to his sufferinge subiects haveinge all a Longe faithfully demeaned himselfe and neuer in the least appeared vppon the Contrarie p[ar]tie; Wee therefore humblie Concernes him to bee a Fitt p[er]son to bee Admitted a Pencioner w[i]thin the hundred of Broxton in the said County Given vnder our hands this viii of September Anno R[egnum]R[egni] Carol[i] S[e]c[un]d[i] dei grat[ia] nunc Angl[iae] & vicesimo tercio Annoq[ue] D[o]m[ini] 1671
