Wee the Inhabitants of Chippenham and others doe hereby certefy that Will[ia]m Russe (of o[u]r Towne) the Bearer hereof [illegible] is to the uttermost of o[u]r knowledge a true Loyall and faithfull subiect and was a souldier of his Ma[jes]t[y] of ever blessed memory vnder the com[m]and of Capt[ain] Thomas Long In which service hee continued constant and never derogated from his principles, Wittnesse o[u]r hands this 27th of August in the xiiiith yeere of his Ma[jes]t[y’]s raigne over England &c

We the inhabitants of Chippenham and others do hereby certify that William Russe (of our town), the bearer hereof, [illegible] is to the uttermost of our knowledge a true, loyal and faithful subject and was a soldier of his Majesty of ever blessed memory under the command of Captain Thomas Long. In which service, he continued constant and never derogated from his principles. Witness our hands this 27th of August in the 14th year of his Majesty’s reign over England etc.
