Whereas William Cheetam of Newton in the County afforesaid Small cowp[er] was listed vnder my Comand and in my owne company at the First beginninge of the distractio[n]s and troubles of the kingdom to resist the comon enemy and did constant & faithfull seruice both in actuall seruice and vpon duty fro[m] yeare to yeare vntill such tyme as hee lost the one of his eyes vpon duty at the Centinell at Woodhead; which did not onely put him to intollerable paine but also to great charges for its cure. And since hath mantained his sonne in my owne company till the kindoms peace was in some measure regained to his great hinderance and cost whereby his estate is much decayed and himselfe and family brought to great want haueinge a wiffe and 7 Children to bringe vp and maintaine vpon his handy labour although very vnable and vnfitt to worke by reaso[n] of the said losse and payne and nothing else but some Barren and vnfruitfull ground held vpon a yearely racke. And this [three illegible words] desire that such care and course may be taken and p[ro]uided for him as is for other maimed souldiers in the like kind haueinge receiued [illegible] Little for his pay at any tyme since he was inlisted.
