The certificate for William Browne of Bishopstone, Wiltshire, 18 September 1665

These are to certifie whome it may concearne that William Browne the bearer herof was a souldier of my Troope in the Regiment vnder the Com[m]and of S[i]r William Courtenay and that he is truly loyall and indigent, and that he hath neuer to ye best of my knowledge or information deserted his ma[jes]ties or his blessed fathers seruice during the late tymes of rebellion or vsurpation, and that he hath not a sufficient liuelihood of his owne, nor hath since his ma[jes]ties returne obtained any reward wherfore I doe herby recom[m]end him as a fitt person to receaue such pention as may be thought fitt for and towards his support according to the Act of Parliament in yt behalfe made

Wee the Inhabitants of Bishopton whose names are here vnderwritten doe Certifie that William Browne was a souldier in his Maiesties service vnder the Com[m]and of Maior Stooks and hath ever since remained a true and faithfull Loyall subiect vnto his late king of blessed Memory and to our soveraigne king which now is without any mannor of revolting at any time and was a prisoner fourteene weekes & is now become lame & impotent
