The certificate for Widow Moore of Atworth, Wiltshire, Easter 1659

Wee whose names are heere vnder written doe humbly certify that Rob[er]t Moore late of [illegible] Attworth in the Countie of Wiltes[hire] husbandman being hertofore pressed to serve the late king contrary to his mynd and iudgm[en]t and made choyce rather to suffer death then to be ymployed in that service but being pressed he was desyrouse to receive the sacram[en]t but the souldiers then vnder the Commaund of one Col[one]l Chester violently carryed him away to Chippenham in the Countie of Wiltes[hire] and told him if he would not serve the king he should serve the Gallowes and being vppon the Gallowes the well affected of the Towne of Chippenham p[ro]ffered the said Chester 30 li. in mony or to presse three men in his steed for his preservation yet the said Chester refused, but the said Rob[er]t Moore being vppon the Gallowes the said Chester told him if he would serve the king he should be free who refused to accept thereof but did die accordingly and left a poore widdow and fower Children in a very meane Condition
