The certificate for Thomas Phillips of Wilton, Wiltshire, 13 December 1671

Wee whose names are herevnder written doe Certify vnto his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace of the County of Wilts[hire] and all others whome it may concerne that Thomas Phillips of Wilton in the County afores[ai]d Taylor was actually in service for King Charles the first (of blessed memory) as a Souldier in the Troope and Regim[en]t of S[i]r George Vaughan dec[ease]d, and that the said Thomas Phillips did alwaies Continue faithfull & Loyall to the Cause of his s[ai]d Ma[jes]tie, and his Ma[jes]tie that nowe is, and (as wee have bin informed) was in Armes for his Ma[jes]tie that nowe is in Tangier in Africa. And further that the said Thomas Phillips by meanes of the harmes & wounds he did endure & receive in the severall Services hath almost lost his sight, by reason whereof he is reduced to Poverty, wanting the benefit thereof to followe his trade for the supportac[i]on of himselfe & family, And in Considerac[i]on of the pr[e]misses we tender him as a fitt object of yo[u]r wor[shi]ps Charity and every way qualified for a Penc[i]on In testimony whereof we have herevnto sett o[u]r hands ye 13th day of Decemb[er] 1671

I do certify yt Thomas Phillips of Wilton was a souldier in S[i]r George Vaughans owne troup
