Wee the Inhabitants of the Porte of Salcombe in the Parrish of Malborough in the Countie of Devon whose names are herevnder Subscribed doe humbly Certifie that the bearer hereof Thomas Hoopper is one of the saide Parrish And is a man of knowne integrity and Loyaltie to his Maiestie and hath bene in the seruice of his Late Maiestie of euer blessed memory in the Late vnhappie warres, duringe all the full Continewance thereof vnto which he Ever Faythfullie adheared: and was sometyme Gouernour of the Forte of Salcombe aforesaide and in other seuerall seruices and Imployments of his said Maiestie: by which hee so farre Run into the danger of the Late vsurped Tyranny and power that hee lost of his Parsonall Estate to the value of Fowerscore or One Hundred pounds: besides seuerall tymes Imprisonment: to his vtter Ruinge and vndoeinge not onelie of himselfe butt allso his Aged wife and Fower Children and soe like to perish in his old Age he himselfe beeinge of the age of Threescore and eight yeares, Wittnesse our handes the Eight daye of Maye in the Thirteenth yeare of his Maiesties Raigne Anno Dom[ini] 1661
