The certificate for Thomas Carpenter of Westbury, Wiltshire, 4 January 1661

To the Right Worshipp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ti[e]s Justisses of the Peace for The County of Wilts[hire] Sitting at New Sarum
Wee the maior & Aldarmen of the Burrough of Westbury in the County Aforesayd w[i]th others of the Inh[ab]itants of the p[ar]ish of Westbury afores[ai]d whose names are hearevnto subscribed doe Certifie that Thomas Carpenter of the p[ar]ish aforesaid weaver was impressed at Westbury afores[ai]d to serue in the late warres by John Taunton then one of the Constables of the sayd hundred And that hee did sirve his s[ai]d ma[jes]tie for a long tyme very Faythfully & neuer was on the other side in w[hi]ch Sirvise hee Rec[ei]ued many Griueous wounds & hurts on his body By Reason whereof hee is Much disabled to worke at his trade to Earne his Liueing so that himself his poore wife & Children are like to Com to great want & nessessity And wee Humble [sic.] Conceaue that hee is very fitt to Receaue somthing out of his Ma[jes]ti[e]s Tresurey for mayned [sic.] soldiers if y[ou]r worsh[i]pps shall thinke fite All w[hi]ch wee Leaue to y[ou]r graue Constructions In wittness Whereof wee haue heareto set our hands as also the seale of our sayd Burrough the 4th day of Jeanuary An[n] Do{mini} 1660
