This is to certifye yow and all p[er]sons whom it may concerne, That Thomas Ashall of Vp=Holland in the Countie of Lanc[aste]r Slater, was ev[e]r a faithfull & loyall subject to o[u]r royall Sou[er]aigne, hee was att both Sieges in Latham howse, vnder Capt[ain] Fox; and att Manchester & seu[er]all oth[e]r places; vnd[e]r Major Bishopp hee suffered very much; his Wief was most desperatly shott to Death, standing in her owne howse, and his howse fired w[i]th losse of his Goods; w[hi]ch did soe impoverish him; that ev[e]r since (haveing Fower small Children to mayntaine) hee hath beene very poore. Wee whose names are subscribed can truly wittnes the same subscribing:
