The certificate for Stephen Symmons of Tavistock, Devon, 5 July 1673

To the Honourable his Maiesties Justices of the peace for the County of Devon
These are to certifie That Stephen Symmons of Tavistocke in the County aforesaid husbandman was a Souldier vnder the Command of Major Jacob in the Regiment of Sir Henry Carew Knight, and that hee was Eminent for his loyalty and Sufferings in the defence of his late Majesties Royall person and governement, and continued faythfull to his trust, and not deserted the same by taking vp Armes against his said late Maiesty, or his Majestie that now is, or otherwise, and that hee was shott in diverse partes of the body and received many hurts in the said Service, and is now maimed, indigent, aged, sickely and disabled in body for worke, and that hee is soe impoverished vnder the late vsurped powers as that hee is destitute of any competent Subsitence or livelihood, Wherefore wee doe hereby recommend him to bee a person fitt to receiue a yearely pension according to a late Act of Parliament Certified vnder our hands and Seales the Fifth day of July in the xxvth yeare of his Majesties Raigne Anoq[ue] dom[ini] 1673.
<We thinke it fit yt the petisoner haue 20 s. for his present releife & a resonable pensian as the Courte shall thinke fit witnes our hands at Tavestocke this 5 July 1673>
