The certificate for soldiers wounded at the Siege of Colchester, 9 September 1648

Mr Greenhill: duringe the seige att Colchest[e]r wee had diu[er]es souldiers wounded and I was constrained to make an hospitall of Barnes and by gods mercye many were Recouered soe many haue died And now god giueinge vpp the towne vnto vs, the Lo[rd] Gen[er]all & all his Forces are marched therein and because some of the wounded were not able neither to goe w[i]th their Regim[en]ts nor allsoe to bee carried hence I haue taken Care for them here,but such as were able to be Carried I have sent vpp to London for Cure Entreatinge you for to take the Care as to put them into some hospitall where you shall thinke fitt for their Care the Names of the souldiers I haue vnder written, And allsoe I intreat you for a poore Widd[ow] Alice Smith, whose husband hath byn was killed whoe hath byn Nurss to the Wounded Souldiers here that you would bee pleased to put her in either to Elye howse or the Sauoye to bee A Nurss to them, she hath carried hersellf very well carefull of them & her I haue sent vpp to attend on them by the waye, thus hopeinge of yo[u]r forwardnes in this Charitable woorke I rest
