The certificate for Robert Bayley of Culmstock, Devon, 7 March 1649

Where as wee are credibly informed that the bearer hereof Robbert Bayley of the p[ar]ishe of Culmstocke in the County of Devon, being A soldier under The Rig[i]m[en]tt of Col[one]l Robb[er]tt Shapcott and since as wee ar likewise informed served in the Reg[i]m[en]tt of Col[one]l Pride and was in the service att the seidge of Pembrooke Castell in the Dominion of Walls and there rec[ieve]d on wound by A shott in his left Arme w[hi]ch yett runs upon him as Apears, And for that hee is nott yett cured and hath loste the use of his Arme and likly to suffer for want, and the Honn[ou]r[a]ble house of Parlem[en]tt haveing made Ane Ordenance for the Releife and Maintenance of maymed soldiers, wee therfor doe will and Require you forthwith to give him releife untill the next Gene[ra]ll Quarter Sessions of the peace to bee holden w[i]thin the s[ai]d County, Att w[hi]ch tyme there may bee farther course taken for his maintenance, According to the Stat[u]t[e] in such case Requireth. Given under our hands the viith of March 1648
