The certificate for Richard Palyn of Aldersey, Cheshire, Epiphany 1669

Wee whose names are hereunderwritten do hereby Certify all those whome it may concerne That ye bearer hereof Richard Palyn now of Aldersey in ye County of Chester hath been alwayes very Faithfull & loyall to his Ma[jes]tie K[ing] Charles the first of blessed memory & to his now Ma[jes]tie K[ing] Charles the 2d that now is, that hee served under ye Com[m]aund of Col[one]l Werden as a foot Soldier for the space of three yeares in the Citty of Chester, and likewise at ye Gentlemens last Rising in Cheshire before his Ma[jes]ties happy Restaurac[i]on, that hee served as a Trooper under ye Com[m]aund of S[i]r John Booth & there was hurt & maymed of his right Arme, & was taken Prisoner, & lost in goods to the valew of Thirty pounds & upwards, to the great weakening of his Estate & almost utter undoing, whereupon hee is fallen into a very indigent Condic[i]on, Wee therefore being assured of the truth of the Premisses do make bold to recom[m]end him to the favourable & charitable Considerac[i]on of the Hon[oura]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for this County to bee admitted one of his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for this County, to be admitted one of his Ma[jes]ties Pension[e]rs in this County as they in their Wisdomes shall thinke fitt.
I doe verily believe this Certificate is true & desire you to looke upon the p[er]son as he is represented
