The certificate for Richard Head of Easton, Wiltshire, Michaelmas 1660

We whose names are herevnto subscribed Inhabitants of the parish of Easton in the county of Wilts[hire] doe most humbly Certifie that the bearer hereof Richard Heade of o[u]r parish of Easton aforesaid Haue ben engaged in the seruice of o[u]r late King Charles vnder the Com[m]and of Capt[ain] Michaell Hearst in the Regiment of Col[one]l Edward Hopton in his Regiment of foote And that duringe the seige against Plymouth hee the said Richard Head receiued a shott from the throate through the right shoulder; soe that hee is & hath ben a long tyme vtterly vnable to labor whereby to susteyne himselfe his wife and children, haueinge not wherewithall besides his sayd labor to releeue them; soe that now in his declyninge yeares his greife augmentinge, without some speedy course be taken, hee is with his wife, and children like to be in a most sad, and deplorable condic[i]on; And beinge a very fitt obiect of yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps pitty and compassion doe humbly recom[m]end him to yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps fauor & Clemency. And well hopeth that his annexed petic[i]on wil be taken into yo[u]r wor[shi]ps most serious considerac[i]on
