These are to certifye whome it may concerne that the bearer hereof Richard Asser hath since the yeare 1641 faithfully served his Ma[jes]tye King Charles the firste of ever blessed memory untill the seige of Colchester w[i]thoute ever serving the contrary p[ar]tye, First under Capt[ain] Leiftennant S[i]r John Smith untill his death And then under the Comaund of S[i]r Henry Lingham in the Countye of Hereford as a Trooper for the space of Fower yeares, And afterwards under the late Right hon[oura]ble the Lord Capell at the Cittye of Colchester And at the Battle at Worcester under the Comaund of one Capt[ain] Leach Given under o[u]r hands the 9th day of May 1662
