The certificate for Randle Jackson of Malpas, Cheshire, Epiphany 1671

To the R[igh]t Wor[shipfu]ll they [sic.] Justices of the Peace for and in the Countie of Chester
Wee whose names are Subscribed Doe hereby Certify yo[u]r wor[shi]pps, That Randle Jackson Liveing in Malpas (at the Beginning of the Late Warrs) was a Souldier vnd[e]r the Commande of Captaine Thomas Cholmondeley, and from him vnder the Command of his highnes Prince Rupert, and soe Continued a fidelious and Loyall Souldier for his Late Ma[jes]tie of famous Memory during ye said Warrs, Now soe it is (R[igh]t wor[shipfu]ll) that by reason of his age & impotencie and haveing foure small Children to maintaine, is not able any longer to subsist, haueing spent all his goods that hee had for the relief of himselfe and Children, whereby hee is brought into great Miserie, and Calamity and is in great Likelyhoode to Perrish through want, if noe provision bee made for his sustentac[i]on in this his Lamentable and Deplorable state & Condic[i]on Would it therefore Please yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps, (it being a Grand act {of} Charitie) to admit him a Pension[er], and that hee may be enroled and receiue Quarterly from the Tresurer and that stipend, and the Like that other Distressed Souldiers haue. In the gratious Performance of w[hi]ch wee shall rest much Endeared, and the Poore [illegible] man ever bound to pray for yo[u]r terrene hapines here, and heavenly indowm[en]ts Ellswhere.
