The certificate for Nathaniell Beckham of Salisbury, Wiltshire, 22 March 1665

These are to certify that Nathaniell Beckham of the Citty of Newe Sarum served his late Ma[jes]ty of ever blessed memory in the late vnhappy warrs as a soldier vnder the Comand of Captaine Richard Davy wherein he manifested his Loyalty, w[hi]ch ever since he hath held both towards his late Ma[jes]ty, and his Ma[jes]ty that nowe is, in which service he caughte a violent sicknes, of which at this tyme he is not p[er]fectly cured, and haveinge a wife w[hi]ch hath been distempered theis 14 yeares last past and a great charge of Children is nowe growne poore & indigent and hath desired this Certificate hopeinge to receive some Annuall stipend by the same dated this xxiith day of March in the Seaventeenth Sixteenth yeare of the Reigne of our Sou[er]eigne Lord Kinge Charles the second of England &c, A[nn]oq[ue] d[om]in[i] 1664.

Wee whose names are vnderwritten doe desire and are willinge, that the said Nathaniell Beckham should have [illegible] a stipend as [illegible] Indigent soldiers has had by reason he has always been a faithfull & loyall subiect, and for his service in the Army has suffered much, & has been ever since sickly, his wife beinge distracted, & has many small Children, & deserved much Charity.
