The certificate for John Tozer of Broadhempston, Devon, 10 July 1682

We the Inhabitants of the p[ar]ish of Broadhempston in the Countie of Devon whose names are underwritten doe by these p[re]sents signifie & declare for a trueth and upon o[u]r credits certifie That John Tozer of o[u]r said p[ar]ish weaver now is and always hath beene a faithfull loyall & liege subject of the kings Ma[jes]tie that now is, and of Kinge Charles the first whome he faithfully served duringe all the time of the late unhappy warres under the Comaund of Captaine Hugh Stawell (whilst living) being then a Captaine of a Troope of horse in S[i]r Henry Caryes Regiment, And after whose death he was a Troop[er] of Captaine Peter Bounds Troope of horse of the same Regiment and never to o[u]r knowledge deserted the said service during the continuance of the said warrs nor since the now kings happy Restaurac[i]on ev[e]r received or had any office, reward or gratuitie for & towards his said service but by a wound w[hi]ch he in the same warrs received & had in his right hand & by his hard service then endured & by him p[er]formed he is become soe infirme in his bodye, that he is noe ways able to accomplish his labour as formerlie in the science or trade w[hi]ch he used for his future livelihood & subsistence, In testimonie whereof we have hereunto subscribed o[u]r hands geaven the Tenth day of Julye in the fower thirtieth yeare of the Raigne of o[u]r most gracious sov[er]aigne Lord Kinge Charles the seacond of England &c Annoq[ue] D[o]mini 1682:
