To the Ho[noura]ble his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of Peace of the Countie Palatine of Chester at their Generall Sessions holden at Northwich w[i]th in the s[ai]d Countie

Wee whose names are subscribed doe Humbly Certifye that the bearrer hereof John [?Tonicliffe] of Prestburie in the Countie afores[ai]d served in his late Ma[jes]t[y]s Fathers service of ever blessed memorie in the Troope of the Late Earle of Lindsey in his s[ai]d Ma[jes]t[y]s then Regim[en]t That now is and in the s[ai]d service was taken prisoner and Dangerously wounded and Carried thervpon to Tifferton Castle in Devonshire where hee Continued for a Longe tyme And hath not neither then nor noe tyme since in the last [illegible] deserted his said Ma[jes]ties service nor his Ma[jes]ties that now is but hath Carryed himselfe truly Faithfully and Loyall to his First principles to the vttermost of o[u]r knoweldges and is truly indigent and of weake estate both of goods & body hope therefore that you will be pleased to admit him a pension[e]r. Dated vnd[e]r  our Hands the 11th day of aprill in the 16th yeare of his s[ai]d Ma[jes]ties Raigne that now is Anno D[omin]i 1664
