The certificate for John Prince of Buerton, Cheshire, 13 July 1652

To the Right woo[rshipfu]ll the Justices of peace for the saide countie at this Sessiones assembled.

Wee who are herevnto Subscribers inhabitinge with in the p[ar]ish of Audlem and countie aforesaide certifie that John Prince of the saide p[ar]ish heretofore liued in good reputation amongest his neighbours and mayntained himselfe and his verie Sufficientlie for that in those daies hee was more able to administer to the poore then to stande in neede of others guiftes yet it soe happened in the beginninge of these distracc[i]ons the saide John Prince beinge then vnder the Com[m]ande of Capt[ain] Richard Corker settinge vpon a man (in the towne of Buerton in the aforesaid p[ar]ish where in the saide John Prince liveth) then in Armes against the States vnder the Comande of S[i]r William Stannupp was in the same conflict shott into one of his Armes and hath vtterlie lost the same and is maymed for euer. And hath Sustayned great losse in his p[er]sonall Estate by the adverse p[ar]tie to the value of two hundred pounds or there aboutes: by reason whereof and havinge noe Convenient mayntenance for himselfe his wife and his to Subsist vpon hee is brought into great want. And the saide John Prince havinge formerlie made knowne his Greevances vnto your Wo[rshi]ps by waie of petition and receivinge noe releife Wee make boulde to declare vnto you nowe the true manner of his sad accedent and pr[e]sent necessitie: leavinge him and his deplorable Condic[i]on (beinge a fitt obiect of Compassion) vnto your wisdeomes and pietie. Wee remayne.
