The certificate for John Floyd of Marston Meysey, Wiltshire, Trinity 1661

These are to certifie the Right Honourable his Maiesties iustices of the peace and all others whom it may concerne that John Floyd now of Marston Meysie in the county of Wilts[hire] was betweene 6 and 7 yeares in the service of King Charles the first of ever blessed memory in the late war vnder the commande of the Right Honoour [sic.] the Earle of Northampton and never since or before in Armes under any pretended Authority whatsoever in which service he received severall desperate wounds and did undergoe many extreme hardships incident to soldiers and for his affection to his Royall soveraigne was plundered and robbed of a ship of ware of a considerable value: and now having lost and spent all his estate in his maiesties service and being partly by wounds and hardships which he then suffered being deprived of the naturall use of his Limbs is reduced to extreame necessity for his maintenance and to the truth of the premises we whose hands are here underwritten doe testifie
