Wee whose names are hereunder subscribed doe certifie yt John Coxe of Broxborne in the County of Hartford baker did serve his late Ma[jes]ty King Charles the first of ever blessed memory under the command of S[i]r Lewis Dives and Col[one]ll Nevill and afterwards at Newarke upon trent in the County of Nott[ingha]m under the command of Captain Mason until such time as that Garrison was rendred into the hands of the prevailing party since which tyme hee hath beene very active and diligent to promote his Ma[jes]tyes designes upon any occasions for which cause hee hath suffered great losses to the utter ruine of himselfe his wife and children Neverthelesse hee hath remained true to his Ma[jes]tyes cause in opposing and gainsaying (what in him lay) all his Ma[jes]tyes Contradictors for which good service wee thinke him worthie to bee relieved by his now Ma[jes]tyes Acte and proclamac[i]on in this case made and provided
