The certificate for John Clayepitt of Yealmpton, Devon, 26 December 1663

These are to Certifie that the bearer heereof John Clayepitt of the p[ar]ish of Yealmpton in the County aforesaid, was A Souldier vnder my Command, And alwaies serued in my Regement of horse before Plymouth, And at other places in all the tyme of the late vnhappie Warr, And dureinge all the tyme of his said serueis, he behaued himself valiantly honestly and stoutely, And in which seruice he receiued seuerall wounds, by reason of which wounds he is become altogether vnable to followe his Callinge, for to gett a liuelyhood for himselfe and poore Famely, I doe therefore thinke him to be a Fitt object of Charitye, And to be receiued in to be a pensioner among ye maymed Souldiers of this County, he haueing alwaies Continued loyeall, In testimony whereof I haue heerevnto put my hand and seale the xxvith day of December in the xvth yeere of his Ma[jes]ties Raigne 1663
